A free felt piano from Orchestral Tools, played in SINEplayer.
Spindle is a Rösler upright studio piano fitted with soft felt hammers. Orchestral Tools recorded it close up from four mic positions, with three velocity layers and three round-robins per note. The tone is muted, with a warm, round low end and clear detail at the top. It suits sparse, melancholy writing, Nordic-noir style drama and repeating ostinatos under dialogue. One reviewer felt it is less suited to busy solo piano pieces. It needs the latest SINEplayer, an Orchestral Tools account and a newsletter sign-up. The full sample set is 5.7 GB, so allow for the download.
Worth knowing: You need an Orchestral Tools account and the newsletter to get it, and the latest SINEplayer to run it.
