A free upright piano from SampleScience, played in Standalone plugin.
Room Piano is a small free plugin built from a 24-bit stereo recording of an upright piano in a living room. To keep it light, SampleScience sampled only every third semitone, at two velocity levels. The result is a homely, lo-fi tone rather than a detailed concert sound. A filter, an LFO, an envelope and a room reverb let you push it further towards a worn texture. It suits low-key underscore, lo-fi cues and quick sketches on a laptop. The limitation is clear. With so few samples and only two dynamic layers, it lacks the nuance of a full piano library. The Kontakt edition needs the full version of Kontakt.
Worth knowing: Pay what you want through Gumroad, and $0 is accepted. It needs a 64-bit host. The Kontakt edition needs full Kontakt.
